Fishing in the sea and in the fjords
From Borhaug via Farsund to Sigersvoll / Eidsfjorden
We are fishing specialists in Borhaug and the surrounding area. Here you will also find what are probably the best and most impressive fishing videos from our fishing friends Achim and Claus from the Bjoernevag, Farsund and Borhaug region over the last 10 years.
Here you can find the fishing videos from The Achim Videos" 2014 – 2023" (Link) on YouTube
For the best fishing spots in the offshore waters (Plateau Jölle in Listafjorden, known as the football field, and Plateau Rauna near the shipwrecks between Farsund and Borhaug), we will provide you with a map after booking. Excellent cod, pollack, saithe, ling, tusk, as well as smaller halibut weighing 10-20 kg and countless mackerel are regularly brought in from the offshore banks and plateaus. Even trophy halibut weighing 80 kg have been caught.
The fishing spots are littered with wrecks that sank before the lighthouse was built around the turn of the century. A wreck near Lista Lighthouse at a depth of 67 meters is considered a hidden gem, where sizable ling, sometimes large cod, and good-sized pollack can be found. At and around Pollackberg in Listafjorden, at a depth of 70 meters, hard-fighting sea fish, especially pollack, regularly take the bait, as our pictures beautifully demonstrate. Ling, pollack, and good-sized cod also congregate directly south of the lighthouse, at depths of 45 to 80 meters, along the drop-offs.
However: Keep your boats away from the lighthouse shore. There are huge rocks just below the surface off the shore; a wave or strong swell would smash your boat against these underwater obstacles.
The Rauna Plateau, further east, with its sandy trenches and elevations at a depth of 117 meters, is also known for its exceptionally large cod, saithe, and ling. The trenches surrounding the plateau are very deep and have yielded enormous ling and beautiful halibut.
The beaches and jetties near Borhaugs offer good opportunities for surf fishing for sea trout, turbot, and other flatfish species, especially in spring and early summer. Good specimens are regularly caught on the shallow beaches near the trotting track, Osthasselstrand, Nordhasselstrand, and Bausje.
In the outer harbor of Borhaug, from the breakwater next to the harbor entrance to the sea, plenty of flounder and plaice are always caught from the shore. This is a good alternative when the northwest wind is blowing and you can't go out to sea.
It is particularly noteworthy that the owners in this area take exemplary care of their guests. Don't worry, even on the larger boats you will receive thorough instruction and practical training until you are completely confident handling the vessels.
Please bear in mind that you are fishing on the open sea, in one of the best fishing grounds in southern Norway, with a great diversity of species and amazing fish sizes. Your trips to sea should always be well-planned and considered. Please check the wind and wave height several times a day on the online weather app. yr.no . and don't risk your life for a fish. Your children would be happy if you came home safe and sound.

Fishing in Eidsfjord near Varnes
The fishing area lies directly in front of Eidsfjord, with its two small skerries in the middle of the fjord. Here you'll find excellent spots for pollack, cod, and saithe. The sandy bottom promises good catches of cod, ling, and flatfish. Fishing in the fjord is permitted daily. We have fished Eidsfjord many times, including at the fjord entrances along the verdant cliffs with their steep, terraced edges and considerable depths, in the opposite Stolsfjord, and towards Cape Varnes with its renowned pollack spots. At Cape Varnes, please fish at a safe distance from the steep banks. Pollack are plentiful there, hiding among the underwater vegetation in shallow water. Do not enter the small bays and harbors; beware of shallows.
In Eidsfjorden itself, you can always find cod, saithe, pollack, and ling, as well as mackerel in the summer, and occasionally salmon and sea trout while trolling. Flounder and plaice prefer sandy bottoms. This alternative is a good option when the wind is northwest and you can't go out to sea. With easterly winds, fishing trips are almost always possible. Please bear in mind that you are fishing here in the fjord, just before the open sea, arguably the best fishing area in southern Norway, with a great diversity of species and surprisingly large fish. Therefore, your trips should be well-planned and carefully considered.
Please check Windguru and yr.no several times a day for wind and wave height. Eidsfjorden (Link Click)
Anglers will find plenty to enjoy at Eisdfjord. Large numbers of pollack, saithe, and cod, along with ample mackerel and other saltwater fish, are on the menu. Fancy some edible crabs? The manager knows where to catch them by hand. Eisdfjorden is renowned for its excellent water quality and abundant fish population. Heed the advice of experienced owners and locals, and never venture out to sea in uncertain weather.
GPS coordinates for the best fishing spots for cod, pollack, ling, tusk, saithe, etc., will be provided upon booking. On board, you will receive thorough instruction and boat handling lessons until you are completely comfortable with the boat.
Fishing and equipment tips can be found on our homepage under the Norway tab.

What is there to say in conclusion about the beautiful Lista region?
It's fascinating to see how the sea changes with the wind, sun, and weather, and how the interplay of light transforms the landscape. Norwegians call it a miniature version of Norway because all the country's typical cultural and natural elements converge here. Many believe that the Lista region will soon surpass the Lofoten Islands in popularity. Norwegians love extreme challenges when hiking and engaging in sporting activities, and in winter, they appreciate extreme weather with snow and fierce storms, which create a true spectacle of nature. This is where the Lista region truly shines.
Horse riding, an alpaca farm, football and volleyball pitches, arguably the best outdoor skate park, a large go-kart track at Lista Fly Park, a gym with a solarium – Borhaug offers all this to keep its guests entertained. A visit to the Lista lighthouse and the quaint stone fields is an absolute must.
In windy or bad fishing weather, head to the coast near Jölle and Snekkestö. If you walk along the shores after a storm, you'll find many ancient and maritime artifacts washed ashore from the depths. Develop a passion for collecting and craft wonderful decorative items for your home from your finds. Also, visit the hidden mountain lakes in the hinterland and spend a lovely summer day swimming there. Even in Norway, the water in shallow areas can reach up to 20 degrees Celsius.
The existing and exemplary signposted hiking trails (totaling over 200 km) must first be conquered by experienced hikers.
Challenge yourself and get active... We hope you have fun.

If you have never driven this route before, it is advisable to prepare using a route planner or road map. The journey time from Kristiansand to Vanse-Jölle and on to Sigersvoll is approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes. There are automatic toll booths along the route. Additional costs, if an inclusive boat is available:
Included are the costs for boat rental during the season, mooring and inventory as described, comprehensive boat insurance with a €1000 deductible depending on the boat type and insurance, and the necessary safety equipment and supplies according to Norwegian law.
Exclusive and not included in the rental price: passenger insurance and accident protection, personal liability insurance, excess cover, consumables, fuels and lubricants.
Boat insurance - hull coverage:
The boat is generally covered by comprehensive insurance. The deductible in case of damage is €1000. The deductible amount may vary; please inquire with the boat owner upon taking possession of the boat and document it on the checklist. Personal belongings are not insured. The comprehensive insurance does not cover accidental damage suffered by persons traveling on the rental boat. The renter is liable for damage to and loss of the boat, unless the damage is covered by insurance. Damage also includes consequential damage. The lessor/owner may retain the security deposit until the damage is repaired. The deductible per claim is to be borne by the renter and may differ from the security deposit. The security deposit will be refunded immediately upon the boat's return in undamaged condition. Any damage not covered by the security deposit or insurance must be paid for by the renter immediately before departure. The renter is obligated to inform the lessor/owner immediately of any damage, collisions, other unusual occurrences, or complaints.
In the event of damage, the deductible is payable on site to the boat owner.

Binding rules of conduct - tenant's liability:
We expect no alcohol on the boat.
The renter is liable for any damage they cause themselves, as well as for any damage caused by other users of the boat. Use of the boat is at the renter's and all other users' own risk. The renter must inform their crew in a timely manner that they should obtain adequate insurance coverage against accidents before departure. Furthermore, the skipper must familiarize the crew with the boat's operation and the terms of the rental agreement and ensure that all passengers wear life jackets during trips.
If fish cleaning takes place on the boat or on a suitable filleting table at the dock, please dispose of the fish waste at sea, not in the harbor basin. Always cover fish waste (to protect against seagulls).
Territorial restrictions:
Boat trips are only permitted in the fjords, not on the open sea.
A minimum distance of 100 meters must be maintained from fish farms or similar facilities. Failure to comply with maritime regulations may result in immediate termination of the lease by the landlord/owner. Any claims by the tenant will then be forfeited.
Cleaning the boat:
The renter is responsible for thoroughly cleaning the boat upon departure. The renter must return the boat in the same clean condition as it was received by the owner.
