The location – The village of Fjellse/Fjellsa on the fjord near Flekkefjord, the white Dutch town.
A protected natural paradise – a mild microclimate, tranquil bays, and a picture-perfect fjord. Fjellse/Fjellsa lies in the central part of Flekkefjord, where the sea recedes near Abelnes, forming a serene fjord system. Surrounded by rocks, forests, and mountains, a unique climate prevails: often 4–5 degrees warmer than on the open coast and significantly less windy. The water is frequently mirror-smooth, the air milder, and the light possesses a magical quality. The village of Fjellsa, situated on the shores of the famous Bubble Bay in Flekkefjord, is characterized by lovingly restored boathouses and well-tended gardens. Fjellsa lies just before Abelnes on the island of Hidra, nestled within the sheltered fjord landscape of Flekkefjord, and is known for its former small fishing camp. The center of Flekkefjord can be reached in 10 minutes by boat or approximately 15 minutes by car. The motorboat belonging to the house is located at its own jetty or in the boathouse.
A place with heart – the small village. The perfect complement to the tranquility of the fjord:
Mornings: silence and fishing by boat on or in the fjords; midday: city life in Flekkefjord; evenings: sunset on the roof terrace.
Fjellse is a very small, warm-hearted, and helpful coastal village known for its hospitality. Shared boat trips, small local events, and the traditional Fjellsefest are all part of the annual cycle – a place where you immediately feel at home.
Fjellsa: A traditional fishing hotspot and fishing paradise – with history and character
In the early 2000s, this stretch of fjord was one of the most famous fishing spots in southern Norway – known at the time for the small fishing lodge run by Elchferien. The legendary Bubble Bay, a secluded fjord inlet right near the lodge, still holds sway. Here, rising oxygen levels, food from a salmon hatchery, and the current attract large schools of fish every day. Every angler catches a fish here. Fjellsa remains famous for this to this day. Around Fjellsa, schools of cod, saithe, mackerel, and other species regularly congregate – a fjord teeming with life, perfectly protected and ideal for anglers.
Swimming spots, island landscapes and clear fjord air
The surrounding beech trees invite you to swim, paddle, and explore. The nearby bathing island of Torsoy is a summer paradise with rocks, natural beaches, boat docks, and clear water. Kayak tours through quiet side channels, sunbathing on warm granite, or spontaneous picnics by the fjord – here you feel truly close to nature.
Flekkefjord – the vibrant coastal town within easy reach
Just a few minutes away by boat lies Flekkefjord, a charming port town with:
- Cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants by the water
- Boutiques and small shops
- the historic Hollenderbyen district
- a lively summer harbor
- cultural events, festivals and markets

Fishing:
Right in Fjellsa (Bubble Bay), there are excellent opportunities for sea fishing, depending on the tide and season. The local diving club in Flekkefjord is a 15-minute boat ride from the house. The location of this holiday home offers numerous advantages, especially for anglers and diving groups, as well as families with children who enjoy fishing. From here, you can reach the best fishing grounds in the region. You can also catch sea fish from the shore, as the local fish population is rich and diverse. By boat, you can reach well-known fishing spots such as Flekkefjord, Bubble Bay (1 minute) near Fjellsa, Vollesfjord and Strandsfjord near Andabeløy, and Stolsfjord. Only a larger boat can reach Hidrasund, the mouth of Fedafjord, and, in good weather, even the southern coast of Hidra. Locals are familiar with spots like Mussel Bay (Vollesfjord) and Retiree's Bay in Stolsfjord. The Siragrunnen and the fish-rich Lista plateau are within reach by suitable boat (the included boat is not suitable for this). However, these trips require careful planning and good weather.
The wreck of the Gudrun, sunk off the harbor in Abelnes during World War II, is a popular attraction for divers from all over the world in both summer and autumn. The fjord shores and the area around Grönnes offer excellent opportunities for sea trout and sea bass fishing. Depending on the season, all other saltwater fish can also be caught from shore. For salmon and trout fishing, visit the large freshwater lakes in the area, or the rivers in Ana Sira or Kvinensdal. (Please note closed seasons; day tickets are required.) We will provide you with maps and GPS coordinates upon booking.
Enterprises:
We highly recommend evening visits to the restaurants and pubs in Flekkefjord, the Grand Hotel with its excellent cuisine, or the Maritim Hotel. Live music and dance events are often held on weekends. Everything is within walking distance. The shopping centers offer a wide variety of goods, so you can shop to your heart's content. In the Flekkefjord harbor, opposite the holiday home, you'll find a boat fuel station for marine diesel and gasoline, "Groennes Marina" (card payments accepted only: Visa and Mastercard with PIN). Additional gas stations and ATMs are easily found throughout the town.
The white town offers a diverse pedestrian zone with numerous shops and other attractions, in addition to restaurants, pubs, and dance bars. There's always something going on, from open-air concerts to other performances. You can organize diving trips through the local diving club by contacting the board directly. At the Flekkefjord harbor entrance, you'll find the small historic fortress of Grönnes and the only fjord beach with a diving platform. Or, in summer, be sure to take a boat trip to the popular swimming and barbecue island of Torsoy, opposite Fjellsa. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about fishing.

Additional costs for the included boat:
Included are boat rental, mooring, and the listed inventory, as well as comprehensive insurance according to Norwegian law with a deductible of up to €1000 – depending on the boat type and the specific insurance contract. The legally required safety equipment is also included.
Not included in the rental price are passenger and accident insurance, personal liability insurance, excess cover, as well as consumables, fuel, and lubricants. Note: Uneconomical or speeding will result in significantly higher fuel consumption.

The boat is generally covered by comprehensive insurance under Norwegian law. The deductible in case of damage is up to €1,000, depending on the boat. The exact amount will be communicated by the boat owner upon handover and documented on the checklist. Personal belongings are not insured. The insurance does not cover personal injury or accidents suffered by guests of the rental boat. The renter is liable for damage to or loss of the boat, insofar as this is not covered by the insurance. This also includes consequential damages.
The landlord/owner may retain the security deposit until any damage has been resolved. The tenant is responsible for the deductible per claim, which may differ from the security deposit amount. The tenant is obligated to report any damage, collisions, or unusual incidents to the landlord/owner immediately.

We recommend abstaining from alcohol completely on board.
The renter is liable for any damage they cause themselves as well as for any damage caused by other users. Use of the boat is at the renter's own risk. The renter must advise their crew that they should obtain their own insurance if necessary. Furthermore, the skipper is responsible for familiarizing passengers with the boat's operation and the terms of the rental agreement and for ensuring that life jackets are worn during the trip.
Fish cleaning must be done exclusively on the boat or at a designated filleting table at the boat dock. Please dispose of fish waste only at sea and never in the harbor basin. Always cover waste well (to avoid disturbing seagulls).
Territorial restrictions:
Navigation is permitted only in suitable waters adjacent to the home port and close to the coast. A minimum distance of 100 meters must be maintained from fish farms or similar facilities. Violations of maritime regulations may result in the immediate termination of the lease by the lessor/owner. In this case, the lessee has no recourse.
Handover – Return:
The rental period of the boat is generally tied to the rental period of the booked holiday home.
Equipment and inventory are handed over and accepted according to the checklist.
Handover and return take place at the berth, including driving instruction.
• Handover: after 6:00 PM or by arrangement
• Return: by 9:00 AM on the last day of rental or by arrangement
Delays must be reported to the owner immediately by telephone.
Cleaning the boat:
The renter is responsible for thoroughly cleaning the boat upon departure. The boat must be returned in the same condition as when it was handed over.
