Fishing in the area of Lindesnes Spangereid, Mandal, Tarvatnet, Lonestrand, Furuholmen, Snig
Sea anglers can fish in the fjord and the open sea, or even target flatfish from the shore. We recommend a boat trip to the region's best fishing grounds, off the islands and to the plateaus near Lindesnes-Spangereid. With a safe boat, you'll need just 10-20 minutes to reach the open sea, depending on the boat's power. In the fjord mouths, you can catch all kinds of sea fish (20 species, good sizes) depending on the season, weather, and tide. In the open sea, you'll find, among others, good-sized cod, pollack, saithe, ling, and tusk. Why not try float fishing for cod and plaice from the jetty while you're grilling? Please be aware of the closed seasons and fishing limits in the river mouths. From summer until early November, schools of mackerel descend deep into the fjord. You can also catch sea fish and flatfish directly from the shore on the nearby beaches, depending on the season. Your contact person will show you the fishing grounds on site. Furuholmen also has two successful fishing guides that you can book.
We also recommend fishing trips on the fjord or out to the open sea to the best fishing grounds in the region off Mandal, Furuholmen, the islands off the coast, and the plateaus. By boat, and in good weather, you can reach the renowned fishing grounds of southern Norway off Furuholmen and Lindesnes.
When fishing with a small boat, it's best to stay behind the skerries and not venture too far out to sea. With a larger boat, it takes about 15 minutes from the dock to reach the open sea. In the fjords, you can catch saltwater fish depending on the season, weather, and tide.
On the burdock in the open sea, you'll find, among other things, good catches of coalfish, cod, pollack, mackerel, ling, and tusk, and occasionally even halibut. The river estuary near Furuholmen is known for good sea trout and salmon fishing. Fishing in certain sections of the river and their zones is only permitted with a fishing license. Please observe the closed seasons and fishing limits in the river estuary.
In summer, schools of mackerel descend deep into the fjords. From the shoreline and jetties, they catch saltwater fish and plenty of flatfish on sandy bottoms, sometimes also salmon and sea trout, depending on the season. The evening hours are particularly recommended.

Here (click ) you will find information about salmon fishing in Zone 1, Audna.
Fishing in freshwater / in the lakes and streams of the surrounding area:
If you enjoy fishing for salmon, trout, and char, then this is the place for you. The vast lake Tarvatnet, with its drinking water quality, is home to native salmonid species. Please note: you need a fishing license for the large lake Tarvatnet. Please inquire beforehand!
Please observe the closed seasons and fishing limits in the river estuaries. The Audna, in particular, is home to fantastic salmon in its pools; a day ticket/permit is required for the various zones during the season.
The Audna salmon river (50 km long) flows through the Audnedalen valley from Ytre Øydnevann to Snigsfjord on the coast. The river's course is very varied, with calm stretches alternating with rapids and waterfalls. Its width varies between 10 and 20 meters, and fishing is highly dependent on the water level. The first few days after heavy rainfall offer the best results.
Fishing in the Audna River is only permitted with a state license for salmon and sea trout. These licenses can be obtained online or by mail. Additionally, a permit from the landowner is required. This can be obtained from the tourist offices in Mandal or Lindesnes (Tel: +47 38258068). Licenses are also available in many shops along the river. For the excellent salmon fishing, the prices are reasonable. Other salmon rivers in the area include the Mandalselva and the Lyngna.
The Audna has seven fishing zones: Zones 1-3 are of interest.
Zone 1: From the mouth of the river to Ystholen. The river flows calmly and offers dry fly fishing opportunities for sea trout in the evening.
Zone 2: Ystholen to 150 m below Melhusfoss. Some nice sections for fly fishing. Particularly recommended at medium or low water levels when no fish are passing through Melhusfoss.
Zone 3: Melhusfoss. By far the best spot. Only a few day tickets are issued, and two landowners are also allowed to fish.
The licenses must be ordered from the Audna Fiskerettforening by May 1st and are not exactly cheap.
There are many beautiful fishing spots in the area – for trout, char, and sea trout. The website Suednorwegen.org provides comprehensive information about Southern Norway, including an overview of fishing lakes and sea trout spots. However, some freshwater lakes require a permit, which is subject to a fee.

Enterprises:
In Spangereid, just 12 minutes away, you'll find a fishing tackle shop, a supermarket, and a petrol station with a general store and fishing supplies. The harbor there also features a small shopping area with maritime shops. Further shopping options are available in Vigeland, which also has an ATM and a top-notch bakery. Norwegian attractions such as the old, resurrected Spangereid Canal, Cape Lindesnes with its lighthouse, and various art galleries, like Krake Vika, which hosts theatrical performances and other events, are well worth a visit. A trip to Lyngdal Water Park (45 minutes), the newest water park in Northern Europe, is a great option if the weather is bad. Hikers and cyclists get their money's worth thanks to the very diverse nature, as the small, white coastal towns of this region are strung together like a pearl, not too far away.
With a wide selection and special opening hours, you can also buy many specialties at reasonable prices on Saturdays and Sundays during the season at the Furuholmen kiosk.
Cape Lindesnes should definitely be included in your itinerary. Here you can visit the lighthouse or walk through the old World War II bunkers (bring a flashlight). The hotel in Båly, with its spa and wellness area, will also pamper you with superb cuisine. And in Spangereid, you'll find the world's only underwater restaurant (opening at the end of 2018/19).
If you're looking for nightlife, you should go to Mandal. The drive there takes about 35 minutes.
There's a lot going on here, including a number of restaurants and several pubs where you can have a drink or dance. Mandal offers many cultural attractions, and the town has plenty to offer shopping enthusiasts. The Kristiansand Zoo is about an hour's drive away and is a must-see for families with children.
