Fishing in the sea and in the fjords
from Borhaug via Farsund to Sigersvoll / Eidsfjorden
We are fishing specialists in Borhaug and the surrounding area. Here you will also find the best and most impressive fishing videos from our fishing friends Achim and Claus from the Bjoernevag, Farsund and Borhaug region over the last 10 years.
Here you can find the fishing films from The Achim Videos" 2014 – 2023" (Link) on YouTube
After booking, we will send you a map of the best fishing spots in the offshore waters (Plateau Jölle in Listafjorden, known as a football field, and Plateau Rauna near the shipwrecks between Farsund and Borhaug). Excellent cod, pollack, coalfish and ling, lumpfish as well as smaller halibut of 10-20 kg and huge amounts of mackerel are regularly brought in from the offshore banks and plateaus. Even large halibut of the 80 kg class have been caught.
The fishing spots are littered with wrecks that sank before the lighthouse was built at the turn of the century. An insider tip is a wreck at Lista Fyr at a depth of 67 meters, where impressive ling, sometimes large cod and good pollack can be found. On and around the pollack mountain in the Listafjorden at a depth of 70 meters, strong sea fish, especially pollack, are regularly caught, as our pictures clearly demonstrate. Ling, pollack and good cod can also be found directly south of the lighthouse, at a water depth of 45 to 80 meters, on the breakaways.
But: Keep your boats away from the shore of the lighthouse. There are huge rocks under the water surface in front of the shore, and a wave or strong swell would smash your boat on the underwater obstacles.
The Rauna Plateau further east, with its sandy ditches and elevations at a water depth of 117 m, is also known for its exceptional and very large cod, coalfish and ling. The ditches around the plateau are very deep and have produced huge ling and beautiful halibut.
The beaches and piers near Borhaugs offer good opportunities for surf fishing for sea trout, turbot and other flatfish species, especially in spring and early summer. Good specimens are regularly caught on the shallow beaches by the race track, Osthasselstrand, Nordhasselstrand and Bausje.
In Borhaug's outer harbor, from the pier next to the harbor entrance to the sea, there are always plenty of flounder and plaice caught from land. This is a good alternative when the northwest wind is blowing and you cannot go out.
It is particularly worth mentioning that the owners in this area take exemplary care of their guests. Don't worry, even on the large boats you will receive detailed instructions and driving exercises until you are really confident in handling the watercraft.
Please remember that you are fishing on the open sea, in one of the best fishing areas in southern Norway with a large variety of species and amazing fish sizes. Your trips out to sea should always be well planned and considered. Please check the wind and wave height several times a day on the online weather app yr.no . and don't risk your life for a fish. Your children would be happy if you came home safe and sound.

Fishing in the Eidsfjord near Varnes
The fishing area is directly in front of the Eidsfjord with its two small skerries in the middle of the fjord, where there are very good spots for pollock, cod and coalfish. The sandy bottom promises good catches of cod, ling and flatfish. Fishing in the fjord is possible every day. We have often fished in the Eidsfjord, also at the fjord entrances of the green cliffs with their sloping, steep edges and very great depths, in the opposite Stolsfjord or in the direction of Cape Varnes with its well-known pollock spots. There, at Cape Varnes, please fish at a safe distance from the steep banks. There are plenty of pollock there between the underwater plants at a shallow depth. Do not go into the small bays and harbors, be careful of shallows.
In the Eidsfjorden itself there are always cod, coalfish, pollock, ling, mackerel in summer, and occasionally salmon and sea trout when trolling. Flounder and plaice like to be on sandy ground. This alternative is a good option when there is a northwest wind and you cannot go out. When there is an east wind, trips are almost always possible. Please remember that you are fishing here in the fjord just before the open sea, probably the best fishing area in southern Norway with a large variety of species and amazing fish sizes. Your trips should therefore be well planned and considered.
Please check wind and wave height several times a day on Windguru and yr.no Eidsfjorden (Link Click)
Hobby anglers will get their money's worth at Eisdfjorden. Lots of pollack, coalfish and cod in impressive sizes, plenty of mackerel and other sea fish are on the fishing plan. Would you like to catch edible crabs? The manager knows where you can catch them by hand. Eidsfjorden is known for its good water quality and abundance of fish. Follow the advice of the experienced owners and locals and never go out to sea in uncertain weather.
You will receive GPS coordinates to the best fishing spots for cod, pollock, ling, lumpfish, coalfish, etc. when you book. On board you will receive detailed instructions and driving lessons until you are really familiar with the boat.
You can find fishing and equipment tips on our homepage under the Norway tab.
Freshwater fishing / in the surrounding lakes and streams:
There are many beautiful fishing spots in the area - for trout, char and sea trout. On the Listerfriluft.no website you will find an overview of the fishing lakes and sea trout spots. For some freshwater lakes you need a permit, which you can pay for. Here you will find all the information about the freshwater fishing spots in southern Norway. (Click here)

Finally, what can be said about the beautiful Lista region?
It is fascinating to see how the sea changes with the wind, sun and weather and how the play of light transforms the landscape. Norwegians call it the miniature version of Norway because all of the country's typical cultural and natural elements come together here. Many believe that the Lista region will soon overtake the Lofoten. Norwegians love extreme challenges when hiking and doing sports and in winter extreme weather with snow and violent storms, which are a real natural spectacle. This is where the Lista region scores points.
Horse riding, an alpaca farm, football and volleyball courts, probably the best outdoor skating rink, a large go-kart track on Lista Fly Plass, a gym with solarium - Borhaug offers its guests all of this to pass the time. A visit to Lista Lighthouse and the rustic stone fields is an absolute must.
If it's windy or the weather is bad for fishing, head to the coast at Jölle and Snekkestö. If you walk along the shores after a storm, you'll find many ancient and maritime objects that the sea has washed up from great depths. Develop a passion for collecting and use your finds to make great eye-catchers for your home. Visit the hidden mountain lakes in the hinterland and spend a lovely day swimming there in the summer. Even in Norway, the water can be up to 20 degrees in shallow areas.
The existing and exemplary signposted hiking trails (over 200 km in total) are waiting to be conquered by experienced hikers.
Let yourself be challenged and get active... We hope you have fun.

Additional costs including boat:
Included are the costs for boat rental, berth and inventory as described, boat hull insurance with 1000 Euro deductible depending on boat type and insurance, the necessary safety features and equipment according to Norwegian law.
Exclusive and not included in the rental price: insurance for passengers and accident protection, personal liability insurance, excess coverage, consumables, fuel and lubricants.
Boat insurance - hull:
The boat is usually covered by hull insurance. The excess in the event of damage is 1000 euros. The amount of the excess can vary; this should be requested from the boat owner when taking over the boat and documented on the checklist. Personal items are not insured. The hull insurance does not cover accidental damage suffered by people travelling on the rental property. The renter is liable for damage to and loss of the boat if the damage is not covered by the insurance. Damage also includes consequential damage. The landlord/owner can keep the deposit paid until the damage is repaired. The excess per claim is to be borne by the renter and may differ from the deposit. If the boat is returned without defects, the deposit will be refunded immediately. Any damage not covered by the deposit or insurance must be compensated by the renter immediately before departure. The renter undertakes to report any damage, collisions, other unusual occurrences or complaints to the landlord/owner immediately.
In the event of damage, the deductible is due for payment to the boat owner on site.
boat license:
Guests born before January 1, 1980 do not need a license for motorboats of this class in Norway. For younger people, a boat license for boats with more than 25 HP is mandatory.
Binding rules of conduct - tenant's liability:
We recommend that you do not drink alcohol on the boat.
The renter is liable for damage caused by himself and also for all damage caused by other users of the boat. The renter and all other users use the boat at their own risk. The renter informs his crew in good time that they will take out appropriate insurance against damage events before the start of the trip. In addition, the boat operator must familiarize the crew with the boat technology and the contract conditions and ensure that all passengers wear life jackets on trips.
If the fish are cleaned on the boat or on a filleting table on the jetty, please dispose of the fish waste at sea and not in the harbor basin. Always cover fish waste (seagulls).
Territory restriction:
Trips are only permitted in the fjords, not on the open sea.
A minimum distance of 100 meters must be maintained from fish farms or similar facilities. Failure to comply with maritime regulations may result in immediate termination of the rental agreement by the landlord/owner. Any claims by the tenant are then deemed to be forfeited.
Cleaning the boat:
The renter must carry out the thorough final cleaning of the boat himself. The renter returns the boat in the clean condition it was handed over to him by the landlord.
