Fishing and leisure activities in the Farsund and Bjoernevag region
Fishing in Farsund, Bjoernevag, Nordstranda and the waters outside Katland out to sea as far as Cape Lindesnes.
In the area around Farsund, with its fjords, island gardens, skerries, and the incredibly fish-rich plateaus off the coast of Katland and the Klett islands, water sports and saltwater fishing (of all kinds) are top priorities for your daily activities. The region is also known for its many surprises for diving, kitesurfing, surfing, and recreational fishing.
Excellent catches of sizable saltwater fish, such as cod, pollack, saithe, ling, and sometimes halibut, as well as an abundance of mackerel, are brought back, especially from the hotspots off Farsund, between Lindesnes Lighthouse and Lista Lighthouse. Of course, we know that success rates depend on the weather, the season, and the currents, but that's just the way it is along the Norwegian coast. Many of our guests have sent us photos, videos, and feedback about their fishing experiences; take a look for yourself. (Click on Impressions)
Here you will also find what are probably the best and most impressive fishing videos from our fishing friends Achim and Claus from the Bjoernevag, Farsund and Borhaug region of the last 10 years.
Here you can find the fishing videos from The Achim Videos" 2014 – 2023" (Link) on YouTube
The exciting videos once again demonstrate that fishing in the Lista region is very productive in stable weather. The size of the fish caught is particularly impressive, despite the common claim that there are no large fish in southern Norway.
The most important thing is to use the right fishing tackle and methods. Here you'll find helpful tips on equipment and our recommended fishing methods. (Click Link)
The open sea with its plateaus Nesskletten, Svaneflua, Rauna and other good fishing spots should only be approached with suitable boats and only in stable weather.
What's important to us: Offshore fishing spots should only be visited in stable weather and with a suitable boat! Small dinghies should avoid offshore fishing areas and have no place on the open sea.

The entire area offers over 20 fish species that can be caught. You can fish among the islands and skerries, or in the sheltered fjord, with hardly any days that are unsuitable for fishing, in virtually any weather. In good weather with little wind, you can easily reach the open sea and the sandbanks from most fishing spots. In the early spring, herring arrive on the coast, joined by hard-fighting cod and saithe.
From some jetties, you can catch flatfish, flounder, and even sea trout, as well as other saltwater fish. The owner can usually give you good weather tips and point you towards promising fishing spots. Sheltered fishing in the fjord is almost always possible. So, if you want to combine fishing with family time, a short journey, and plenty of alternative holiday activities, this region is a great choice.
From Farsund or Borhaug, you can book professionally guided fishing trips. The resort operator Björnevags also offers guided deep-sea and deep-sea fishing trips on the M/S Bjørnevåg, a 32-foot, 100-horsepower boat certified for 5-8 people. The trip lasts approximately 6 hours and is only conducted with a confirmed booking. (Booking and payment are only possible on-site in Björnevags).
Fishing near Nordstranda:
At various times of the year, schools of mackerel and other marine fish species migrate into the Helvikfjord near Norstranda. From April onwards, fishing for sea trout directly from the Nordstranda jetty or at the Svingbru v Bøensbakken bridge is particularly promising and successful. In our opinion, the best sea trout fishing can be found along the shores and beaches of Farsund, or even in the town center under the bridge when it's windy. We've tested this ourselves and had considerable success.
In the summer of 2023, a pod of peaceful orcas even moved into the inner fjords and stayed there for several weeks to feed and rest. Visitors should keep their distance from these majestic animals and the seals, and always maintain a safe distance.
Did you know that from our new Nordstranda resort near Helvik you can take a boat through the fjords to Lyngdal or Apta? Or in just 15 minutes directly to the town center of Farsund and from there quickly out to the open sea, past the Katland lighthouse?
Fishing in freshwater / in the lakes and streams of the surrounding area:
There are many beautiful fishing spots in the area – for trout, char, and sea trout. On the website Listerfriluft.no you will find an overview of the fishing lakes and sea trout spots. A permit is required for some freshwater lakes and is subject to a fee. Here you can find all the information about freshwater fishing spots in Southern Norway. (Click here)
We wish you much success, fun and good fishing.

Additional costs for boats:
Included are the costs for berth and boat inventory, comprehensive insurance with up to 1000 euros excess depending on the boat type and insurance, and the necessary safety equipment and gear according to Norwegian law.
Exclusive and not included in the rental price: passenger insurance and accident protection, personal liability insurance, excess cover, consumables, fuels and lubricants.
Boat insurance - hull coverage:
Your boat is covered by comprehensive insurance. The deductible in case of damage is €1000. The type of coverage and the amount of the deductible may vary; please inquire with the boat owner upon taking possession of the boat and document this on the checklist. Personal belongings are not insured. The comprehensive insurance does not cover accidental damage suffered by persons traveling on the rental boat. The renter is liable for damage to and loss of the boat, unless the damage is covered by insurance. Damage also includes consequential damage. The owner/lessor may retain the security deposit until the damage is repaired. The deductible per claim is to be borne by the renter and may differ from the security deposit. The security deposit will be refunded immediately upon the boat's return in undamaged condition. Any damage not covered by the security deposit or insurance must be paid for by the renter immediately before departure. The renter is obligated to inform the owner/lessor immediately of any damage, collisions, other extraordinary incidents, or complaints.
Boat license:
Guests born before January 1, 1980, do not require a boating license for this class of motorboat in Norway. Younger individuals must hold a boating license for boats with more than 25 hp.
Binding rules of conduct - tenant's liability:
We expect the boat captain to strictly abstain from alcohol on board. This is solely for your safety.
The renter is liable for any damage they cause themselves, as well as for any damage caused by other users of the boat. Use of the boat is at the renter's and all other users' own risk. The renter must inform their crew in a timely manner that they should obtain adequate insurance coverage against accidents before departure. Furthermore, the skipper must familiarize the crew with the boat's operation and the terms of the rental agreement and ensure that all passengers wear life jackets during trips.
If fish cleaning takes place on the boat or on a suitable filleting table at the dock, please dispose of the fish waste at sea, not in the harbor basin. Always cover fish waste (to protect against seagulls).
Territorial restrictions:
Trips are only permitted in the adjacent and suitable waters of the home port and in coastal areas.
A minimum distance of 100 meters must be maintained from fish farms or similar facilities. Failure to comply with maritime regulations may result in immediate termination of the lease by the landlord/owner. Any claims by the tenant will then be forfeited.
Handover - Return:
The rental period of the boat is generally tied to the rental period of the booked property.
Equipment and inventory will be handed over/accepted according to the checklist.
Location: Handover with driving instruction and return take place at the berth.
Handover: 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM or by arrangement with the owner
Return: by 10:30 am on the last day of rental or by arrangement with the owner.
Any delays must be reported to the owner immediately by telephone.
Cleaning the boat:
The renter is responsible for thoroughly cleaning the boat after each use. The renter must return the boat fully fueled and clean, just as it was received by the owner. We strongly advise against wearing black, staining soles on fiberglass boats. Cleaning them afterward is very difficult and requires a significant amount of work. Depending on the extent of the cleaning required, we charge up to €100 for an improperly cleaned boat.
